There had bever been any tensios, no oppression to any nationalities. Russian language was main formal and informal language of communication. I am a Ukrainian by birth, but i barely can speak Ukrainian as we had it only two classes a week in school without any opportunity to practice it. That's not what happened -- the people of Crimea first held a referendum on seceding from Ukraine, then (after that was accepted by some 90%) another referendum on joining Russia. Only then, Russia moved in.
Now it is possible that Russia supported the "secede" and "join" sides. But there is no way the result of the referendae were fraud. You can turn 55-45 into 45-55, but certainly not 49-51 into 90-10 -- and given Russia knew the vast majority was with them, why would they have bothered to rig the election? There's no reason to assume this was anything but the will of the people of Crimea.
Annexation always has that connotation of being a military action - which never happened. If this is considered an annexation, probably the reunification of Germany in 1990 should also be described as "West Germany annexed East Germany".
It may also be noteworthy that Ukraine responded by shutting off Crimea's drinking water supply and electricity. That's not something you do to people you care about in any way.

Ukraine lost 10 million people due to russua's genocide of Ukrainians and due to using them to figh Germain nazis in WWII. Both russia and Germany were best pals, allies who started the war and people did not forget that. Both of my grandfathers were fighting the nazis from the day the war started. Half a century after the war my grandfather cried when telling us episodes from the war and what horror he had to live through. My husnabd's grandfather was also fighting nazis during the war amd he was killed leaving behind his wife with 5 children.
